About ARIO

Home to the Centre for Natural Products and the Centre for Healthy Communities, the Applied Research and Innovation Office (ARIO) at Loyalist College develops the capacity for applied research and innovation for campus and community partners. Through our two Centres and ARIO broadly, we support researchers, innovators and industry partners, helping them to access the technology, funding, and expertise to advance their inquiries and their businesses. The Applied Research and Innovation Office also provides resources and support for the functioning of the Research Ethics Board.

Research Ethics Board (REB) Support

Members review and approve research proposals involving human participants.

Supports Research and Innovation

Advances the development of inquiry, research and innovation activities at Loyalist College to enhance the student experience.

Offers Infrastructure and Resources

Provides expertise and state-of-the-art equipment to aid applied research projects

Facilitates Connections

ARIO collaborates with external partners and agencies in the ecosystem.

Conducts Research, Development and Innovation Services

Collects evidence, data, and information and performs analyses for the continuous offer of high-quality student learning experiences, student services, and program relevance.

The leading-edge facilities at Loyalist provide access to the latest tools and technologies, learning resources, and realistic practice environments that prepare students for the workforce and support businesses in their applied research projects. 

Centre for Natural Products

Loyalist College's Centre for Natural Products is an innovation hub helping industry partners transform research results into high-quality and innovative products. The Centre collaborates with startups and small and medium-sized enterprises to develop and scale up ideas, products, and processes.

Bay of Quinte Skills Centre

The Bay of Quinte Skills Centre is a technology and trades training Centre designed to prepare skilled workers in emerging labour markets such as architecture and building sciences, automotive, electrical, welding and manufacturing. Loyalist College students train on the latest equipment to prepare for in-demand jobs in these fields. The 121,800-square-foot Skills Centre features 50,950 square feet of repurposed 'green' space and an additional 70,850 square feet of new, flexible space for teaching, laboratories, shops, research labs and classrooms.

Mechatronics Labs

The new Mechatronics Labs at Loyalist College support graduates of the Electromechanical Engineering Technician – Mechatronics program. Loyalist College students learn how to use these facilities to develop the skills and knowledge to enter the workforce in a wide variety of industrial environments and advanced manufacturing devices.

Health & Human Studies Interprofessional Simulation Centre

Loyalist College students and community health partners use the latest simulation technology to participate in realistic and interactive scenarios at the Interprofessional Simulation Centre.  The Centre provides real-life practice settings that prepare students to be confident and effective in the workplace. It is currently used by 16 Health and Human Studies-related programs, including community service, health and wellness and public safety courses.

Digital Media Centre

The Digital Media Centre at Loyalist College prepares students with working knowledge of the latest hardware and software used in the industry. The 10,000-square-foot all-platform newsroom features video editing suites, a television studio, interview and audio production booths, and meeting rooms. The open-concept space offers a hands-on learning experience and a collaborative approach to support the development of all essential skills of a thriving creative industry professional.
