Jenna Alexander joined the Centre for Natural Products as a Research Associate in February 2025. She previously worked as a Research Officer for the Irish Sea Portal Pilot (ISPP) project and Shellfish Centre project at Marine Centre Wales, a department of the school of Ocean Sciences, Bangor University, where she was part of RD&I operations which aimed to promote and develop Wales’ shellfish industry through collaborative research projects.
As a Research Associate, Jenna is responsible for supporting the execution of applied research projects, in collaboration with students, CNP staff and industry partners. Along with her role researching and implementing RD&I projects, she contributes to the day-to-day operations of the Centre.
Jenna obtained her 1st class BSc (Hons) in Zoology at Liverpool John Moores University, along with an academic achievement award for best performing student. She won a scholarship to conduct a research MPhil at Aberystwyth University, titled ‘Developing an integrated whole genome amplification and next generation sequencing method to characterise Cryptosporidium clinical isolates’ in collaboration with the Public Health Wales department of the NHS. She is currently a PhD candidate at Bangor University, studying the spawning, transport and settlement of marine bivalve larvae using molecular tools.
