Barb Allen

Senior Manager, Centre for Natural Products and Applied Research

Barb Allen is the Senior Manager for the Centre for Natural Products and Applied Research for Loyalist’s Applied Research and Innovation Office. Barb has been involved with the Centre since 2019. She applies her past work in R&D, project management, and mentoring, with her extensive experience as a highly regarded professional in the pharmaceutical sector, where she led formulation and product development teams, designed method validation and quality control. She is also the Associate Dean of Applied Sciences for Loyalist’s School of Applied Sciences, Skills and Technology.

 

Her hands-on approach, knowledge of good manufacturing practices, good production practices, lean six sigma certification and exceptional project management expertise enable our ability to successfully navigate the projects we undertake.

 

Barb plays a key role in the Centre, assigning resources to projects and coordinating preparation of project plans. She is also responsible for leading individual projects. Barb is actively engaged in training and mentorship of students and interns in the Centre and acts as an overall resource in establishing a high standard for scientific credibility and rigor in applied research projects and approach to solutions. 

 

Barb brings more than 25 years of industrial and management experience in the pharmaceutical industry, working for companies including Astra Zeneca, Glaxo-Smith Kline and Purdue Pharma. Barb has been a member of several college program advisory committees and has contributed to the development of programs and courses related to analytical chemistry, pharmaceutics, and cosmetics.  As a compliment to her industrial career, she has been teaching for more than 30 years at Seneca, Durham and Loyalist Colleges. Barb completed her BSc with a major in chemistry as well as a MSc in biochemistry from the University of Toronto.
